A. F.M. Alexander was born in Tasmania in 1869. Alexander is noted for his detailed study of muscular tension, posture, movement and habit as they relate to how people use their body in the performance of day-to-day activities and their effect on health and wellbeing.
By practical observation and experiment Alexander developed a system of re-education which frees the body of muscular strain and restores co-ordination. In Alexander Technique lessons people learn to bring a degree of conscious choice into their day to day living.
