What Happens During an Alexander Technique Lesson?
You have decided that you may want to try the Alexander Technique. And you’d like to know what happens during a lesson. With over 40 years’ of experience under my belt, I have developed a straight-talking approach that focuses on identifying the specific concerns of each client. Then we simply apply the principles and practice of the Alexander Technique to your requirements and work together until we achieve our goals.
Your Alexander Technique lesson – what you need to know
- It’s all about you
My first priority is to listen to you and establish what benefits or goals you would like to achieve from your Alexander Technique lessons. It might be to relieve pain and discomfort or it could be for help with something specific, like public speaking, golf or playing a musical instrument. The next step is to explain and demonstrate how these objectives can be achieved in a practical way. - What to wear?
Lessons in the Alexander Technique are relaxing and energising and are tailored to individual needs. You will remain fully clothed throughout the session. Comfortable attire is recommended. - How often?
I recommend you start with a weekly lesson and as you make progress, weekly lessons become less necessary. - Tense Muscles are released
Through gentle hands-on guidance and simple explanation, your tense muscles are released. And this allows the body to lengthen up to its full height. Round shoulders are eased out in the same way. You will then be physically guided in how to sit, stand, walk and perform daily activities without strain. - A new ease of movement
During lessons, you will discover a new ease of movement and increased energy. It’s possible you may even gain as much as an inch in height as your spine becomes less compressed. The overall effect you will experience is a sense of lightness and ease. - No exercises are involved
The technique aims to get to the root of problems by helping people identify and then prevent harmful postural habits that may be the cause of stress, pain and poor performance.
